When bunk beds emerged they were very simply two smaller beds on top of each other primarily designed for small children. Since then the whole industry has changed, and although you can of course find your traditional two tier bunk beds a new generation has also emerged.
These include the incredibly useful futon bunk beds, which have a regular top bunk and a futon couch for the bottom section. This may not seem useful and it may even seem self defeating, but by the end of this article you'll see why they're very useful.
For most children nowadays a bunk-bed isn't there to save space, but more for friend's sleepovers or even just as a Christmas gift for the kids. Unfortunately having a while bottom bunk which is unoccupied for 95% of the time is a serious waste of space.
This is where futon bunk beds come into play, because they allow your kids to watch television on the futon, but also utilize it as a bed for whenever their friends come round as play. When the children grow up, they're less and less likely to be inviting friends round and bunk beds bought purely for the purpose of sleepovers can soon become a hassle. That's not true in this case, because it's using space that otherwise would just be filled with a regular bed. This means that using the laptop or watching the television is much easier because there's somewhere proper to sit. Not only this, but it also means you don't need to use up more space in the room...
